Harry A. Ogden was an American illustrator who specialized in historical and military subjects. In the last decade of the nineteenth century, he was commissioned by the War Department of the United States government to paint the various designs worn by army soldiers over the years. His works were then made into chromo lithograph images for incorporation into a multi volume book entitled, "The Army of the United States", by Henry Nelson.
Here is one of the folio plates from the book. It is titled, "Independent Company Organizations 1774 - 1775" . The name of the publisher is found above the title and centered below the image: "B. M. Whitlock, publisher, 99 Fourth Avenue, N.Y". The facsimile plate signature of H. A. Ogden is lower right on the image and immediately below in the margin is "Lith by G. H. Buek & Co NY" In the right margin underneath the image is "Copyright 1686 by Brid Genl S. B. Holabird, OR, Master Genl, U.S." which should not be interpreted as the actual copyright date for Ogden's work.
Previously framed and matted. Image colors are strong for a chromolithograph that is 120+ old. Discoloration on borders due to tape and mat residue and leaching. No loss to image. No handwriting, rips or tears. Published on strong, heavy stock paper which is like cardboard today.
The dimensions with borders are 15 inches by 17.25 inches.
