'The Man 'O War II'
B-17 painting by Steven Heyen
B-17G 'Man o War II Horsepower Ltd' of the 322nd BS and other Flying Fortresses of the 91st BG try desperately to fight off a determined attack by FW-190s and Me.109s of the Luftwaffe in the Spring of 1944. This is a large and complex piece that conveys the epic aerial battles between the USAAF and the Luftwaffe that took place up to thirty-thousand feet above Germany. Highly detailed, in subtle ways it seeks to describe the drama of a few seconds of activity in a typical engagement.
Oil on fine canvas, unframed: 24" x 36"
